PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The city of Philadelphia plans to purchase energy from large new solar farm to be built as part of its plan to use renewable energy for all operations by 2030.
City Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown introduced a bill Thursday that will allow the city to package a deal between the Philadelphia Energy Authority and the Adams Solar LLC.
If approved, the solar farm about 100 miles west of the city would be the largest in Pennsylvania.
Under the deal, Radnor-based Community Energy Solar would develop the 70 megawatt solar farm, not far from Gettysburg.
The city says there will be a job fair for positions with the project.
Philadelphia was one of 20 cities last month that was awarded nearly $2 million through the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge.
