VERNON, Vt. (AP) - The owner of the former Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant has eliminated 30 jobs.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports Entergy Nuclear has 24 remaining employees at the plant. Entergy had announced the planned layoffs last month
Entergy is in the process of selling the plant to NorthStar Holding Co., which will dismantle the plant. Officials say there will be eight full-time employees left to manage the facility after the Vermont Public Utility Commission approves the sale.
Michael Twomey, the vice president of external affairs for Entergy Wholesale Commodities, says the company has offered transfer opportunities and workshops on retirement and career transition.
Vermont Yankee employed 600 people at its height before the plant ceased operation.
