CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board hopes to save stained-glass windows, bannisters and other fixtures from a downtown building that will be demolished to make way for a city courts building.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Saturday the preservation board isn’t yet certain what can be preserved in the Carey Building. Access to the structure is limited because of insurance considerations.
Demolition of the 142-year-old building is planned in February. The building is plagued by mold, asbestos and pigeon droppings.
Mayor Marian Orr has said she would support a request for $40,000 to pay for preservation efforts.
Councilman Pete Laybourn notes that would be a small percentage of the total cost of the courthouse project, which could exceed $13 million.
