It’s a question as old as time. How can the Cleveland Browns out-Browns themselves next?
The Browns are interested in interviewing former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for their head coaching vacancy, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Rice would become the first woman to interview for an NFL head coaching job if this comes to pass. She would also be the first former Secretary of State to do so.
Hours after ESPN’s report, the Browns released a statement denying that they are considering Rice for the head coaching job.

It’s no random mismatch of team and candidate, either, as Rice is a lifelong Browns fan and knows team owner Jimmy Haslam.
Rice is best known as President George W. Bush’s Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009, but she is also an avid football fan and has served in roles in sports before. She was on the first College Football Playoff Committee and was a committee member from 2013 to 2016.
She also chaired the commission that looked into fraud and illegal payments in college basketball recruiting earlier this year.
