COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina’s unemployment rate was unchanged last month, staying at a record low 3.3 percent of the workforce.

The Department of Employment and Workforce said in a news release Friday the state set another record for the number of people working in October, at more than 2.2 million.

The national unemployment rate in October was unchanged at 3.7 percent.

The state agency said the leisure and hospitality segment added nearly 9,000 jobs in October. The professional and business services sector added nearly 7,500 jobs last month.

Education and health services saw employment drop by 1,400 jobs. Construction declined by 200 jobs.

Bamberg County had the highest unemployment rate in October at 6.9 percent. Charleston had the lowest rate at 2.7 percent.
