Andrew Wheeler will be nominated to permanently lead the Environmental Protection Agency, President Trump said Friday.
Mr. Trump made the announcement at an East Room ceremony where Mr. Wheeler, 53, was in attendance.
He has served as the acting head of the EPA since Scott Pruitt, former Oklahoma Attorney General, resigned under an ethics investigations in July.
The president introduced Mr. Wheeler as the “acting administrator who, I will tell you, is going to be made permanent. He’s done a fantastic job and I want to congratulate him.”
His confirmation in the Senate will likely be contentious; only three Democrats supported his nomination to the No. 2 job at EPA.
