AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine education officials say standardized test scores declined slightly in the last school year compared to the 2016-2017 school year.
The Portland Press Herald reports 50 percent of Maine students tested at or above grade level in English and 37 percent of students tested at or above grade level in math in the 2017-2018 school year. However, 53 percent of students registered at or above grade level in English and 39 percent were at or above grade level in math in 2016-2017. There was a slight decline in science scores, as well.
The report is based on Maine Educational Assessments results for third through eighth graders and SAT scores for high school juniors.
Maine had used the Smarter Balanced test before educators spoke out against the assessment.
