WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A community college in Rhode Island is looking to offer winter classes to help students graduate on time.
The Providence Journal reports that administrators with the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick said in a letter Nov. 8 they will ask part-time faculty to teach the winter session if contract negotiations with full-time faculty fail.
The winter session will be offered in January, and last three weeks. Students can take one course.
Rosemary Costigan, vice president of academic affairs, says part-time faculty has expressed interest in the classes. She says they are hopeful they can reach an agreement with full-time faculty.
Students at the community college can receive free college tuition through a state program launched last year.
