ASHBURN — It’s not a Monday at Redskins Park without coach Jay Gruden announcing a season-ending injury along the offensive line.
Geron Christian tore his MCL in Sunday’s win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making the rookie tackle the latest Redskins lineman out for the year. The Redskins have four guards on injured reserve and are without starting left tackle Trent Williams (thumb).
The Redskins drafted Christian in the third round of this year’s draft out of Louisville. The pick was considered to be a reach, but Washington valued Christian for his athleticism and upside.
The team planned to let Christian develop this season, though the rookie played 40 snaps last week against the Atlanta Falcons. On Sunday, he played just three snaps against the Buccaneers.
Gruden said the Redskins don’t plan on bringing in another lineman to fill his spot. Veteran Austin Howard, who was signed last Monday, will be the team’s swing tackle.
Williams is not expected to practice this week, Gruden said.
