RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A new program will give 50 Richmond students full academic scholarships to Virginia Union University.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the university in Richmond is partnering with the city’s school system. The application process will open in January for eighth-graders.

School System Superintendent Jason Kamras says that it will be “life changing” to tell the winning students that their college education is taken care of.

The partnership will allow the district access to university labs and classrooms, and mentorships are being developed. The university will also gain access to the district’s Arthur Ashe Center for athletics and events.
