SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - Nijal Pearson scored 21 points and Texas State won its season opener with a 67-57 victory over Air Force on Friday night.
Air Force cut an eight-point deficit when Sid Tomes converted a 4-point play to pull the Falcons to 60-54. Air Force got a point closer when Ryan Swan made a 3-pointer to make it 62-57 with 1:10 remaining but the Bobcats made their final six free-throw attempts to seal it.
Alex Peacock added 14 points for Texas State. The Bobcats avenged last season’s opening loss to the Falcons, 65-57, and have now won four of its last five openers.
Tomes, Swan, Ameka Akaya and Lavelle Scottie each scored 11 points for Air Force (1-1), which trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half.
It was Texas State’s first game inside renovated Strahan Arena.
