BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A former management official of Bloomington’s city-owned arena who was indicted on charges of mishandling city money has been fined $1 and sentenced to 30 months of probation in exchange for his testimony at the trials of three co-defendants.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that 38-year-old Jay C. Laesch of Heyworth was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to money laundering and filing a fraudulent sales tax return.
All of the charges were related to his work as finance director of BMI Concessions, the former food and beverage provider for the facility then known as U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Laesch was one of five former management officials indicted last year in what authorities said was a scheme in which the men skimmed more than $1 million over a period of several years.
