ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Eversource is partnering with a New Hampshire school district to upgrade all of its lighting.
The utility is working to upgrade more than 5,700 light fixtures at the Rochester school district to LED lighting. The lights are being installed by veterans with Affinity LED Lighting. By making that move, the company estimates that the district will save $72,000 and reduce annual carbon emissions by 309 tons or the same amount as taking 70 cars off the road.
The new lighting system should be installed by early 2019. The units require less maintenance, use up to 75 percent less electricity and are controlled by an application that considers available light and occupancy to improve efficiency.
Rochester School District Superintendent Michael Hopkins said the lighting project “will have a lasting, tangible impact.”
