OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Latest on a shooting in Oakland that wounded a chase suspect (all times local):

8:30 p.m.

Police say a driver they shot and wounded after a 25-mile (40-kilometer) chase was wearing body armor and had two assault-style rifles.

KTVU-TV says police in Vallejo received a call Thursday from someone who said a heavily-armed acquaintance was in a car outside of a house.

When police arrived, a chase began from Vallejo to Oakland at speeds of more than 100 mph. The black SUV crashed in Oakland, where the station says the driver tried to ram officers and opened fire.

Police returned fire.

TV reports showed the bullet-riddled SUV with shattered windows stopped on a sidewalk. The man was shown being taken to an ambulance but there was no immediate word on his condition.

The crash scene is near an elementary school that was locked down. Parents were escorted on campus to retrieve students.

Northern California police say officers shot a suspect multiple times after they were led on a 25 mile (40 kilometer) vehicle pursuit.

Authorities said Thursday that officers in several Vallejo Police patrol cars chased a suspect’s vehicle from Vallejo to Oakland before it crashed near an elementary school around 5 p.m. The school was locked down and parents were escorted on campus to retrieve students.

Oakland Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds.

Watson did not identify the suspect or discuss the suspect’s medical condition.

Vallejo Police did not return phone and email inquiries.
