RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Less than 50 percent of Richmond’s top City Hall administrators who are required to live in the city have a city address.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports the city’s director of human services, Korita Jones, shared the news Monday with the City Council. Some council members in turn recommended abolishing the requirement. The requirement applies to 180 high-ranking administrators and managers, but can be waived on a case-by-case basis. Jones said her department did not track how many employees had the requirement waived.
City Council member Andreas Addison was one of the five members in favor of abolishing the requirement. He said doing so would make the city more competitive and attract younger candidates for open positions. The council will vote on the requirement on Monday.
