LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols has proposed a $407 million budget that seeks to hire more faculty and staff and raise salaries.

The proposed 2019 budget is being presented this week to the UW Board of Trustees, who have the final say on the spending request.

The Laramie Boomerang reports the proposal seeks $4.2 million for the hiring of 32 new faculty members. Some of the new hires would replace those lost through the faculty separation incentives offered during UW’s fiscal crisis in 2016 and 2017. It also seeks to hire 10 new custodians.

The budget plan follows on the heels of two fiscal years in which the university was forced to slash its budget by a total of about $42 million.
