COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Senators have ended a meeting before voting on possible new members for vacant seats on state-owned utility Santee Cooper’s board of directors.

The Senate Judiciary Committee reviewed the nomination of Charles Leaird at its meeting Tuesday.

Republican Sen. Chip Campsen of Isle of Palms says he is concerned if Leaird can objective voice because he has worked with electric co-ops that have sued Santee Cooper.

Other lawmakers pointed out Leaird has 40 years of experience in utilities which could be vital for Santee Cooper.

The delay in voting on Leaird also postponed a vote on whether to appoint former state Attorney General Charlie Condone as the Santee Cooper board chairman.

Senators will discuss the appointments again at a later date.
