OPINION:
Michelle Obama, the former first lady who seems to have appointed herself the spokesperson for the fairer gender, has taken to criticizing her fellow women for voting for Donald Trump for president in 2016.
She’s “concerned” about women. She’s wondering “what is going on in our heads.”
Well, she needn’t be. In fact, better yet, she ought to just go away. And take that trail of condescension, too.
Obama’s snottiness, while typical of the left’s ever-present contempt toward the right, adds nothing to the current political climate but fire.
“In light of this last election,” she said, during the United State of Women summit in Los Angeles, “I’m concerned about us, as women, and what we think about ourselves and about each other. What is going on in our heads where we let that happen.”
By “that,” she meant Trump — she meant that she couldn’t believe the women of the country let Donald Trump become president.
“When the most qualified person running was a woman,” she went on, “and look what we did instead, I mean, that says something about where we are, if we as women are still suspicious of one another, if we still have this crazy, crazy bar that we don’t have for men … if we’re not comfortable with the notion that a woman could be our president, compared to what?”
Obama, two words: Go away.
The fact the left is constantly trying to guilt conservatives into believing that something is wrong with them for having conservative views is a long-loved liberal tactic, one that sees the Democrats constantly calling out Republicans for whatever mud-slinging name that sticks when they throw. Republicans, for example, who don’t want to raise taxes on the rich aren’t limited government folks — they’re lacking in compassion for the poor. Republicans who don’t condemn all police as racist are themselves racist against blacks. Republicans who don’t vote for every environmental regulation that crosses their paths are destroyers of the earth, shills for the developers.
And so on and so forth and so on.
The left doesn’t really believe these labels — just as Obama doesn’t really believe the 52 percent of white women that exit polling showed voted for Donald Trump are mentally impaired, cognitively dissonant, confused, ignorant and controlled by the men in your life.
It’s just something to say to irk the Republicans, score easy points with the leftist base and — and this is the bigger goal — to stifle conservative thought.
If the left can successfully sell the idea that conservative ideals are wrong, then Democrats win big at the polls.
Problem is Obama’s snooty persona gets in the way of her sales act. Telling women they’re stupid for voting a certain way is not the way to get them to change their votes.
Rather, it’s a surefire way to tick them off — and face a bit of a rebound ire. Go Trump 2020, right?
Women aren’t stupid for voting for Trump. Neither are their faculties for reasoning skewed or damaged. It’s Obama — the has-been, former tax-paid servant-to-the-people first lady — who is suffering a bit of mental strain right now, brought on by the loss of the left’s elitist grip on government. She’s speaking of what she doesn’t know, what she doesn’t understand. She’s speaking illogically and out-of-turn. She’s speaking like a wild-eyed desperate Democrat who still can’t fathom, nearly two years later, how a Republican could win the White House.
She’s certainly not speaking for all the women of the United States.
