AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A 20-year-old who opened fire on Austin police during a surprise drug raid at his home in the middle of the night has been found guilty of aggravated assault for shooting and injuring an officer.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that a Travis County jury on Monday found Tyler Harrell guilty of aggravated assault. But the jury also found him not guilty of the most serious charge against him, attempted capital murder of a police officer. He was also found not guilty of attempted murder and aggravated assault of a public servant.
He’s set to be sentenced Tuesday. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
Harrell shot 23 times from an AK-47 style rifle during the 2016 raid. An officer was shot in the knee.
