DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - The Quad Cities area is losing a reporter, editor, columnist and community cheerleader after 74 years in the pursuit of what’s worthwhile, interesting and newsworthy.

The Quad-City Times reports that Bill Wundram is leaving his newspaper job at the age of 93, having written columns for 39 years. He says he’ll miss the newsroom’s clatter and laughter.

Over the years at the Times and its predecessors, he held various titles and did lots of different jobs. A former editor once made Wundram the “ideas editor,” because Wundram always had them.

Wundram championed pothole repairs, downtown Davenport renovation, circuses that came to town and the memory of jazz great Bix Beiderbecke.

In promoting the community good, Wundram would ask, “Is anybody there? Does anybody care?”
