ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge is ordering a Mississippi county to pay an additional three years of salary to an employee who lost his county jobs while running for sheriff.

Court documents show that U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock added $120,671 to what Chickasaw County must pay Lamon Griggs.

In 2015, county supervisors eliminated Griggs’ job as solid waste enforcement officer and fired him as a bailiff. Griggs lost the sheriff’s race that year and sued the county, arguing his two jobs were taken away because of his campaign.

The county argued the solid waste job was eliminated because of a lack of money.

A jury last year awarded Griggs $83,447 in back pay.

On Thursday, Aycock denied the county’s request for a new trial and ordered the additional payment to Griggs.
