DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Pistons officials have announced financial support for music and education programs for children in the city.
The Pistons said Monday team owner Tom Gores, Vice Chairman Arn Tellem and the Detroit Pistons Foundation are contributing through a multi-year partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The money supports efforts to create a youth percussion ensemble and subsidizes symphony concert tickets for fourth-grade students in Detroit’s public schools.
Funding also will go to the Sphinx Organization to support the nonprofit organization’s annual Sphinx Honors Competition for young black and Latino musicians. Officials say the Pistons’ involvement is expected to bring hundreds more students into the competition.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
