APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities were thrown for a loop by a shocking discovery while investigating a pickup truck that had crashed into a California home.

The Press-Enterprise reports deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, while looking for any possible casualties from the collision, found more than 900 marijuana plants at varying stages of cultivation inside the Apple Valley residence.

No one was inside the residence when deputies arrived to investigate the crash.

The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division-Marijuana Enforcement Team was called to assist in the investigation and served a search warrant at the residence.

Investigators also discovered electricity was being stolen in the home as the suspects bypassed the electrical meter installed by the electric company.

Information on any suspects or arrests was not immediately disclosed. It was unknown how many occupants were in the vehicle.
