BOSTON (AP) - A prominent Boston-area developer has been charged with assaulting one of his home health care nurses.

Arthur M. Winn was released Thursday after not-guilty pleas were entered on his behalf at his arraignment on a charge of strangulation or suffocation.

The nurse, Audrey Kenney, says the 78-year-old Winn grabbed her by the neck and squeezed on Oct. 6 because he was angry about having to wear the CPAP machine that helps him breathe.

Winn denies choking the woman, saying he only put his hand up for a second.

A spokesman for Winn tells The Boston Globe that Kenney is attempting to extort $3 million from the developer. Kenney’s lawyer denies any extortion attempt.

Winn is a politically connected developer who amassed a fortune building some of Boston’s largest affordable housing developments.
