White House demands action from TBS after Samantha Bee calls Ivanka Trump a ‘c—t’

The White House demanded an apology from Samantha Bee Thursday after the television comic referred to President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, as a “feckless c—t.”

Ms. Bee opened her show, airing on the cable network TBS, with the barb against Ms. Trump on Wednesday night, criticizing a photo the president’s daughter posted of her and her son.

Ms. Bee said it was an insensitive photo at a time when illegal immigrants arrested for jumping the border are being separated from their children in order to be sent to jail.

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless c—!” said Ms. Bee during her show.

“He listens to you! Put on something tight and low cut and tell your father to f—-ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes,” she added.

She issued an apology Thursday afternoon for the remarks.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” Ms. Bee tweeted.

Prior to that apology, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders demanded action from TBS, which is owned by Time Warner. The company also owns CNN.

“Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network,” Mrs. Sanders told the online outlet TheWrap.

Mrs. Sanders’ demand for action comes a day after the White accused the media of bias with its swift reaction to another comic, Roseanne Barr, whose show was canceled by ABC after she posted a tweet comparing President Obama’s family friend and top adviser Valerie Jarrett to an ape. CNN and other outlets labeled Ms. Barr’s tweet “racist.”
