Shortly after comedian Samantha Bee issued an apology Thursday afternoon for having called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—t,” actress Sally Field took to Twitter to say the slur was inappropriate, but for an entirely different reason.
“I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a c—t,” the Oscar-winning actress wrote. “C—ts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.”
Ms. Field’s quip was quickly met with approval from liberals in the entertainment industry and media.
“I co-sign this so hard,” tweeted Cher. “I think c—t’s a great word and a compliment.”

“I love you @sally_field,” said Greg Proops, an actor, comedian and podcaster.
“Just when you thought @sally_field couldn’t get any cooler,” wrote Tom D’Angora, a theater producer based in New York City in his retweet of Ms. Field’s remarks.
“Wow. Sally Field with the unexpected dunk of the day,” said Jill Pantozzi, managing editor for Gizmodo’s io9 and a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter.
