BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Officials in Barre and members of the city’s police union have agreed on a temporary contract.
The Times Argus reports the contract was approved Tuesday night. It will expire on June 30.
City manager Steve Mackenzie says both parties aren’t close to finalizing a multiyear settlement and that the contract was “a strategic settlement.” Under the agreement, police officers and emergency dispatchers will receive a 2 percent pay raise.
Barre will continue to pay for 90 percent of platinum level health insurance premiums. The city says it will pay all of the gold level premiums.
Mackenzie says both sides agreed to focus contract negotiations on pay and health insurance. Contract talks will resume on June 8.
