NBC News corrected a story Thursday that said federal investigators had tapped the phones of President Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
The original report incorrectly said Mr. Cohen’s phones had been under surveillance, but it was at least a few weeks ahead of the raid on his personal home, office and hotel room earlier last month. The incorrect report said one call between Mr. Cohen and the White House was intercepted, but it was unclear who he was speaking with, or if there more intercepted calls with the White House.
Federal investigators actually kept a “pen-register” of Mr. Cohen’s calls, meaning they could log phone calls, but not record or listen in real time.
