After a thrilling Game 3 win in Pittsburgh, the Washington Capitals will hit the ice again Thursday missing one of their top forwards.
Tom Wilson received a three-game suspension from the NHL for an illegal check to the head on Zach Aston-Reese of the Pittsburgh Penguins, meaning the Capitals will move forward with a shakeup across most of their lines.
With a victory Thursday, the Capitals can bring the second-round playoff series home needing just one more win to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for only the third time in franchise history. But first, here’s what you need to know for Game 4.

What to watch for: Shane Gersich will make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut on the fourth line, alongside Jay Beagle and Alex Chiasson. Jakub Vrana was moved up to the third line in place of Devante Smith-Pelly, who will fill in for Wilson on the top line. … Carl Hagelin skated with the Penguins Thursday morning, but coach Mike Sullivan merely said Hagelin would be a game-time decision for Game 4. The winger has not appeared in the series after suffering an injury in Pittsburgh’s Game 6 win over Philadelphia in the previous round. … The Capitals are 4-0 on the road in the 2018 playoffs, while the Penguins are 1-3 at home.
