MAULDIN, S.C. (AP) - Officials say a lawsuit filed against the city administrator of a South Carolina suburb didn’t lead to his sudden resignation this week.
A former public works employee in Mauldin sued the city and Administrator Trey Eubanks saying he was forced to resign after collecting proof of worker misconduct and discrimination for a city council member.
Stanley Simpson says he collected evidence of a stripper pole in an office and a smoke bomb thrown by white employees into a bus with three black workers.
Mauldin Mayor Dennis Raines told news outlets Eubanks sudden resignation Tuesday had nothing to do with the lawsuit filed last July, but refused to elaborate.
Eubanks also didn’t speak to reporters and a lawyer for the city did not comment on the lawsuit.
