TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Phil Murphy abruptly canceled his monthly call-in radio show after a last-minute dispute over the show’s planned format.

The hour-long “Ask the Governor” show was due to air Thursday night on public radio stations WBGO in Newark, WNYC in New York City and WHYY in Philadelphia. But it was canceled a little more than an hour before it was slated to start.

WNYC planned to bring on a reporter who would question Murphy about his school funding proposal. The station said the Democrat refused to go on air if it kept to that plan, and the station wouldn’t back down.

A Murphy spokesman said the governor wanted to focus on taking calls from constituents and felt adding more reporters would take time away from callers. The spokesman said they told the stations this earlier in the week.
