TICONDEROGA, N.Y. (AP) - Fort Ticonderoga is displaying artifacts that tell the story of the historic site’s links to the city of Philadelphia during the American Revolution.
The northern New York tourist attraction overlooking Lake Champlain’s southern end has opened a special pop-up exhibit for Memorial Day weekend.
The Pennsylvania-related artifacts include an original copy of Baron von Steuben’s drill manual for soldiers and an American-made artillery piece that was one of the first to be stamped with the letters “US.”
Von Steuben was a Prussian officer in charge of training Gen. George Washington’s Continental Army troops at Valley Forge.
The fort museum’s curator says the artillery piece is a bronze howitzer cast in Philadelphia in 1777.
The fort will hold a special Memorial Day ceremony honoring the nation’s fallen military members.
