The Washington Redskins waived guard Arie Kouandjio on Tuesday, designating him as injured in hopes of placing him on injured reserve.
Last week, Kouandjio underwent a season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn quadriceps. His recovery time is expected to be six-to-eight months, per multiple reports.
The Redskins drafted Kouandjio in the fourth round of the 2015 draft. He started six games last season, re-joining the team midseason after being waived following training camp.
Kouandjio was projected to compete for the starting job at left guard, but that won’t happen now. On May 4, Washington re-signed former starter Shawn Lauvao, who was brought in before Kouandjio suffered his injury.
If Kouandjio clears waivers, he’ll be placed on injured reserve.
In addition to the move, the Redskins signed guard Isaiah Williams, who was on the team’s practice squad in 2016. After being waived before the start of the 2017 season, he spent time on the practice squads of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts.
