OPINION:
Jon Meacham, a presidential historian who has a pretty impressive background, as far as writers go, anyway, took to national television to predict: Donald Trump will be impeached.
It’ll be the “season finale” of Trump’s whole White House shindig, he said.
Well, with all due respect to Meacham, his Pulitzer for a biography of Andrew Jackson, his executive stints at Random House and his many, many writing contributions to The New York Times and other left-leaning publications — he’s full of it.
Respectfully speaking, of course.
“I would bet a good bit of money,” Meacham said, on a recent “Morning Joe” segment on MSNBC, The Hill reported, “this [presidency] is going to end up in the House with some kind of impeachment proceeding, and the makeup of that body and ultimately the reaction of the United States Senate, which is supposed to be the great deliberative check and the great final hammer on these things. I think … that’s going to be the season finale of this.”
Hmm, how much money, exactly?
Any-hoo — once again, the left is showing its absolute and utter failure to understand why Trump was elected.
Once again, the left is tossing its “I”-card, for Impeachment, without having any impeachable offense to simultaneously point to as proof.
Once again, the left is taking a dramatic misstep by ignoring the elephant in the room of all impeachment talk — the one that’s called The People.
Let’s think this through.
If Democrats, by some magical act of voting act, manage to swing over both House and Senate to the side of the left in upcoming elections, thereby positioning themselves to make a case for impeachment, what exactly do they think the people of the United States, the ones who voted Trump into office, will do — go quietly into that good night?
The protest movement would be remarkable. The uprising, massive.
The election fallout, in ensuing match-ups, equally so.
Democrats can whine and cry about Trump all they want — they can threaten and vow to drive this president from office, and so forth and so on and so forth. And now, most recently it seems, they can put forth the opinion of a presidential historian with a decided slant against this administration as some sort of higher authority on the impeachment case than pro-Trump peon class of the country. But it’s still all smoke and mirrors.
It’s still nothing but a circus show aimed at fueling a narrative of anti-Trumpism — a steady drumbeat that plays over and over in the press, a la propaganda, as if saying it enough will make it true.
And truth be told, the more the left aims low against this president, the more the anti-Trump messaging makes the media airwaves, the more the pro-Trump faction digs in and preps for political war. So go on, Jon Meacham — go on, Jon Meacham and all those on the left. Keep preaching the impeachment button. Truly, it’s nothing but a help for the Republican side.
