SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has rededicated a temple south of Salt Lake City after completing extensive renovations.

The Daily Herald reports the temple in South Jordan was rededicated Sunday after being closed for two years to update its furniture, carpet, decorative paint motifs, artwork and art glass.

The Mormon church says the exterior was not changed, but it was also reworked to be more efficient with improvements to mechanical, electrical and plumbing elements.

President Henry B. Eyring, second counselor in the church’s First Presidency, said he feels the “echoes of the pioneers” who settled that part of the Salt Lake Valley “because of the faith they had.”

More than 17,000 young people also took part in a cultural celebration at the church’s Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Saturday, a traditional part of temple dedications.
