Washington Nationals second baseman and outfielder Howie Kendrick has a ruptured Achilles, according to reports, and will have season-ending surgery Monday.
Kendrick, 34, had to be carted off the field after catching a fly ball in the eight inning of the Nationals’ 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday afternoon.

Kendrick knows his season is over. Said he thinks positively about every situation, and is going to stay positive here, too. Said moping won’t help anything. Going to stick around and help his teammates any way he can.

Although normally Washington’s second baseman this year, Kendrick has also played the outfield and first base in 2018. He was batting a team-high .302 with 12 RBI, 14 doubles and four home runs through 39 games this year.
Before the reports that Kendrick’s injury was a ruptured Achilles, the Nationals placed him on the 10-day disabled list.
