ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say the suspects in the fatal shooting of a transgender man in Atlanta remain at large.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports 36-year-old Nino Fortson was found with multiple gunshot wounds early Sunday and died at a hospital.
Atlanta police Officer Lisa Bender says a witness saw him fire a small gun into the air during an argument with two men and two women. The witness turned away, but then heard more gunshots and saw Fortson on the ground.
Police spokesman Carlos Campos said no evidence indicates his gender identity played a role in his death. LGBT liaisons are working with the homicide unit, however.
The Human Rights Campaign says Fortson is the 10th known transgender person killed this year, and the first known homicide of a transgender man in 2018.
