Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom is doubtful for Game 3 against the Tampa Bay Lightning after not participating in the team’s line rushes during Tuesday’s morning skate.
Backstrom will likely miss his fourth straight game with a right hand injury. He took part in portions of Washington’s morning skate, but line rushes are a key indicator for a player’s status. Backstrom, like he did for Game 2, handled the puck to the side.
Capitals coach Barry Trotz said Backstrom was still “day-to-day” and did not rule him out for Tuesday’s contest.
Backstrom first started skating with his teammates on Sunday before Game 2.
The Capitals lead the series 2-0.
