ISLAMABAD (AP) - Pakistan’s National Security Committee has rejected recent remarks by former premier Nawaz Sharif regarding the 2008 Mumbai attacks, according to a statement issued by the prime minister’s office.
Sharif had implied in a recent interview that militants in Pakistan had crossed the border into India to carry out the attacks that killed over 150 people.
The meeting held Monday was chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi with top military brass also in attendance. The statement that “the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances” was being presented in “disregard of concrete facts and realities.”
The Lashker-e-Taiba militant group, founded by U.S.-wanted militant Hafiz Saeed, was blamed for the Mumbai massacre. Pakistan released Saeed in November after eleven months of house arrest.
