SEATTLE (AP) - Officials are working to enhance the Pacific Northwest Trail, one of 11 National Scenic Trails in the county.
The Seattle Times reports Pacific Northwest Trail Association Executive Director Jeff Kish is leading the charge to protect, promote and improve the trail’s 1,200 miles (1,931.1 kilometers).
Kish, who has completed the hike between Glacier National Park in Montana and Olympic National Park on the Washington coast, and the association have created a new website, new trail maps, and partnered with a company to develop a new mobile trail navigating app.
Kish says the app was released Friday for Apple devices, and a version for Android is expected to be released in June.
Kish says he hopes more people throughout the country will learn about the trail, hike it and help improve it for generations to come.
