NEW YORK (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he plans to travel to Israel show “solidarity” in a tumultuous time.

The Democrat said at a Jewish organization fundraiser Thursday that he aims to go as soon as it can be arranged.

He said Friday on cable station NY 1 that the trip could be next week. He added: “The time to show up, when you are a friend, is in the time of trouble.”

Israel and Iran this week had their most serious military confrontation to date. Israel attacked dozens of suspected Iranian targets in Syria, saying the airstrikes were in response to an Iranian rocket barrage. A prominent Iranian cleric then threatened two Israeli cities with destruction if the Jewish state, in his words, “acts foolishly.”

Cuomo last visited Israel in 2014.
