TORONTO (AP) - Luke Maile hit two home runs, including a two-run shot in the 12th inning that gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
Maile’s drive off Boston’s Brian Johnson (1-2) improved the Blue Jays to 5-0 in extra innings after they overcame an impressive outing by Red Sox starter Chris Sale.
Curtis Granderson walked to begin the 12th before Maile went deep to right. Maile also hit a game-tying homer off Sale in the seventh. It was the first multihomer game of his career.
Sale matched his career high by striking out 15 over a season-high nine innings.
Sam Gaviglio (1-0), recalled from Triple-A Buffalo earlier Friday, pitched three innings for the win in his Blue Jays debut.
METS 3, PHILLIES 1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Michael Conforto hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off Philadelphia closer Hector Neris for New York’s second win in 10 games.
Phillies starter Jake Arrieta allowed five hits over 7 1/3 scoreless innings, and they led 1-0 until Neris allowed a one-out single, Conforto’s third homer and a homer to Devin Mesoraco on the next pitch. It was the second blown save in six days for Neris (1-3), both costing Arrieta a victory.
Odubel Herrera extended his on-base streak to 40 games with a first-inning home run for the Phillies, who had won four straight.
Jeurys Familia (2-1) worked a perfect ninth for the Mets, who had scored two or fewer runs in seven of their previous nine games.
CUBS 11, WHITE SOX 2
CHICAGO (AP) - Willson Contreras had two homers, two doubles and drove in a career-high seven runs on his bobblehead day to lead the Cubs over the crosstown White Sox.
Contreras capped a five-run first against Carson Fulmer (2-3) with his second career grand slam. He has three doubles, two triples and two homers in his past 10 at-bats. Kris Bryant homered for the fourth time in five games and Tyler Chatwood (3-3) improved to 3-0 in his past four starts.
With their sixth straight loss, the White Sox matched the 1948 team for the worst 35-game start in franchise history at 9-26.
RANGERS 1, ASTROS 0
HOUSTON (AP) - Cole Hamels allowed one hit over six innings to narrowly outduel Justin Verlander, leading Texas over Houston.
Hamels (2-4) cruised through the first four innings without allowing a hit before Evan Gattis led off the fifth with a single. He entered the game having lost six of his previous seven decisions. Keone Kela earned his eighth save.
Astros outfielder George Springer left in the fourth after being hit by a 92 mph fastball from Hamels.
The Rangers finally got to Verlander (4-2) in the seventh. Nomar Mazara hit a leadoff double and Adrian Beltre and Joey Gallo drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Chris Devenski relieved, and Jurickson Profar’s sacrifice fly scored Mazara.
PIRATES 11, GIANTS 2
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Starling Marte, Josh Bell and Jose Osuna hit two-run homers, Max Moroff added a three-run blast and Pittsburgh beat San Francisco in Andrew McCutchen’s return to PNC Park.
McCutchen, a five-time All-Star who played his first nine seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to the Giants in January, received an extended ovation from the largest crowd to watch a Pirates home game this season when he came to bat in the second inning. The right fielder went 1 for 5 with a double and threw out Pittsburgh’s Colin Moran at home plate to end the sixth.
Steven Brault (3-1) picked up the win in relief after Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon left after three innings with a laceration on his right hand. San Francisco rookie Andrew Suarez (1-2) lasted just four innings.
NATIONALS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 1
PHOENIX (AP) - Max Scherzer struck out 11 over seven innings of four-hit ball and Trea Turner led off the game with a home run to lead Washington over Arizona.
Scherzer (7-1) retired 15 in a row after giving up a home run to David Peralta leading off the third inning. The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner also hit an RBI double, and remained unbeaten since April 4.
Anthony Rendon also homered for the Nationals, who have won five of six. Sean Doolittle earned his second save in two nights and eighth of the season. Matt Koch (2-1) went eight innings and allowed three runs and seven hits.

Machado has three home runs in his last two games and 12 for the season.
Kevin Gausman (3-2) gave up two runs in 7 1/3 innings and Brad Brach got four outs for his fifth save.
Carlos Gomez had two hits and two RBIs for the Tampa Bay, which has lost four straight and six of eight.
ATHLETICS 10, YANKEES 5
NEW YORK (AP) - Khris Davis, Matt Chapman, Jed Lowrie and Matt Joyce all homered for Oakland, and New York lost back-to-back games for the first time in more than a month.
The A’s had lost three in a row before roughing up Sonny Gray (2-3), their former ace. The Yankees acquired Gray from the A’s before last year’s trade deadline for outfielder Dustin Fowler and two minor leaguers. Making his first start in the majors, Fowler singled in his second at-bat against the player he was traded for.
Recalled from the minors to make the start, Kendall Graveman (1-5) allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks over six innings. Blake Treinen got four outs for his sixth save.
MARLINS 6, BRAVES 3
MIAMI (AP) - J.T. Realmuto had three hits, including his fifth homer, and Miami broke a four-game losing streak. Starlin Castro hit his second homer and drove in two runs for the Marlins.
Ozzie Albies moved into a tie for the NL lead in homers, connecting for his 12th in the third inning for Atlanta, which had won eight straight on the road.
Dan Straily (1-0) allowed two earned runs in five innings. Four relievers completed a five-hitter. Brandon McCarthy (4-2) endured his second rocky outing in a row, allowing six runs and 11 hits in five innings.
ROYALS 10, INDIANS 9
CLEVELAND (AP) - Andrew Miller, activated from the disabled list before the game, gave up Salvador Perez’s two-run homer in the seventh inning and Kansas City rallied from a 9-4 deficit to beat Cleveland.
Miller (1-1) entered the game in the seventh with a one-run lead, but walked Jon Jay on a 3-2 pitch. Jorge Soler and Mike Moustakas struck out before Perez hit a 1-1 pitch onto the home run porch in left field. Miller, who had pitched 10 scoreless innings before the injury, was removed following the homer.
Alcides Escobar had four RBIs for Kansas City while Lucas Duda doubled three times and drove in a run. Brad Keller (1-1) pitched three scoreless innings for his first major league win and Kelvin Herrera earned his eighth save.
REDS 6, DODGERS 2
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Matt Harvey tossed four innings of one-hit ball in his Reds debut, Scooter Gennett homered and drove in three runs, and Cincinnati defeated the scuffling Dodgers, extending their season-high winning streak to four games.
Harvey struck out two and walked none in a 55-pitch outing that was cut short because of his lack of recent game competition. The right-hander’s fastball topped out in the mid-90s.
The lone hit Harvey gave up was a fluke. Right fielder Scott Schebler lost a high popup by Cody Bellinger in the lights against a sky dark with clouds, allowing Bellinger to slide into third for a triple in the second.
Harvey is seeking to revive his career after going 9-19 over the last three seasons with the New York Mets.
Austin Brice (1-2) got the win in relief. Raisel Iglesias pitched two-thirds of an inning for his sixth save.
The Dodgers fell to 8-11 at home and got no help from Kenta Maeda (2-3), who hasn’t won in nearly a month.
TWINS 5, ANGELS 4
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Eddie Rosario homered twice, Bobby Wilson hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, and the Twins rallied for a victory over the Angels.
Rosario’s solo shot to right pulled Minnesota to 4-2 in the sixth and his drive in the ninth cut the deficit to 4-3. Logan Morrison then doubled to left, and pinch-hitter Mitch Garver drove him in on a single down the first base line to tie it at 4. Wilson’s sac fly scored pinch-runner Max Kepler to cap the three-run ninth.
Fernando Rodney got Mike Trout to ground out to short with a runner on first for his sixth save.
Matt Magill (1-0) picked up the win for his scoreless eighth inning in relief. Justin Anderson (0-1) gave up three runs in 1 1/3 innings.
BREWERS 11, ROCKIES 10, 10 innings
DENVER (AP) - Manny Pina hit a tying two-run homer with two outs in the ninth and Travis Shaw delivered a two-out RBI single in the 10th, lifting the Brewers to a victory over the Rockies.
Trailing 10-8 and down to their last out, the Brewers rallied to tie it off closer Wade Davis, who blew a save for only the second time in 16 chances this season. Hernan Perez singled with two outs and Pina followed by driving Davis’ 1-1 offering into the right field bleachers above the scoreboard.
Lorenzo Cain hit a one-out single in the 10th off Jake McGee (0-2), and pinch-hitter Tyler Saladino singled one out later. Shaw, who homered and had another RBI single earlier, then drove a solid single to center to score the decisive run.
Jeremy Jeffress (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win and Josh Hader got three outs for his sixth save.
CARDINALS 9, PADRES 5
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Paul DeJong homered and drove in a career-high four runs, and Jedd Gyorko, Marcell Ozuna, Harrison Bader and Tommy Pham also went deep to lead the Cardinals to a victory against the Padres.
The Cardinals scored all but one run on the homers. Four of the five long balls were off Padres rookie Eric Lauer (1-2), who lasted only 2 1/3 innings.
DeJong hit a three-run shot to left in the second, with Ozuna and Gyorko having reached on singles. It was his eighth.
Cardinals starter Luke Weaver (3-2) held San Diego to four hits in five scoreless innings while striking out four and walking one.
