BOSTON (AP) - Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas was not in the starting lineup against Boston, a day after he was hit by a pitch from Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Royals said after Monday’s game that Moustakas had a bruised right forearm.

“Probably could play today, if there was a righty on the mound,” Royals manager Ned Yost said before Tuesday’s game against Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale. “Sale’s pretty tough on lefties right now.”

Yost was unsure whether Moustakas would return to the lineup for Wednesday’s final of the three-game series. The Royals host Detroit on Thursday.

“He was really sore last night, and he made progress today,” Yost said. “We’ll see how he feels. There’s a good chance he could be back tomorrow, but, if not, absolutely 100 percent chance at home.”

Moustakas is hitting .302 with eight homers and 19 RBIs in 28 games this season. He is batting .286 (8 for 28) with one home run against Sale.
