NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A fast-growing tech conference is moving from its New Orleans home of three years to Canada.

News outlets report Collision organizers confirmed Tuesday that the annual event currently underway will be held in Toronto in 2019. Event founder Paddy Cosgrave said in a statement Tuesday that the conference needs to “find a bigger base with more global connectivity,” as it grows.

The president of economic development organization GNO Inc., Michael Hecht, disputed that reasoning, saying New Orleans is capable of handling a larger event.

An estimated 25,000 attendees are expected at this year’s conference. Collision began five years ago in Las Vegas, with 5,000 attendees.

In an April online post presaging the move, Cosgrove juxtaposed Toronto’s diversity with the United States’ denial of entry to a number of tech entrepreneurs.
