CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A bill that would have required able-bodied Medicaid recipients in Wyoming to work at a job, go to school or do volunteer work has died in a House committee.
KGAB-AM reports Senate File 97 had passed the state Senate on a 25-5 vote last week, but it failed on a 4-4 tie vote in the House Labor, Health and Social Services Committee on Tuesday.
The measure would have affected up to 3,500 Medicaid recipients in Wyoming. Most of the state’s 60,000 regular Medicaid recipients would have been exempted because of their health or age.
Supporters had argued the proposal would be good for low-income people because it would get them into the workforce.
But opponents argued that the people targeted by the bill were probably already looking for jobs.
