PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) - Police in Rhode Island say they are concerned about the recent theft of a semi-automatic rifle given “what’s going on in the world today.”

Portsmouth police tell The Newport Daily News the AK-47 was reported stolen from a home in town Tuesday, but may have been taken anytime within the past couple of months because the house is undergoing renovations.

Nine empty magazines for the firearm also were taken, police said, along with a television and video game console.

The word “Sasha” is engraved on the wood fore grip of the weapon.

Anyone with information about the stolen gun is asked to contact police.

Police have not received any threats of violence related to the missing weapon.
