CODY, Wyo. (AP) - A survey of Cody residents in northern Wyoming finds strong support for arming qualified staff in local schools.

The Cody Enterprise reports that results of a random community survey mailed to a quarter of the city’s population show 74 percent of those who identify foremost as community members are in favor of allowing qualified personnel to apply to be able to carry a concealed handgun in school buildings.

The policy, which also includes required firearms and situational training, in addition to a psychological evaluation and random drug testing for participants, is being considered by the school board.

The survey was sent to 2,400 residents within the Cody school district and over 1,000 surveys were returned.
