BOURNE, Mass. (AP) - A member of a Massachusetts town’s governing board charged with attacking his girlfriend and threatening her with a baseball bat has been held without bail.
The Cape Cod Times reports that Bourne Selectman Michael Blanton is accused of attacking the woman on Nov. 4 and Feb. 25. On Monday, he was arraigned on the newer charges and ordered held as a danger.
Blanton’s attorney questioned whether his client should be considered a danger given that the woman continued living with him after the first alleged attack.
Blanton is a first-term selectman who is up for re-election on May 15.
Selectman Judith MacLeod-Froman says the board will address Blanton’s position soon.
Blanton will remain in custody until at least March 27, when he is scheduled for another court appearance.
