Emma Stone is being accused of “white feminism” for slighting the minority directors nominated for Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Presenting the award for Best Director, Miss Stone referred to the nominees as “four men and Greta Gerwig,” who directed “Lady Bird.”
Critics say the stunt failed to acknowledge two minority directors who were up for the honor: Jordan Peele for “Get Out” and Guillermo del Toro, who took home the prize for “The Shape of Water.”
The other directors nominated were Paul Thomas Anderson for “Phantom Thread” and Christopher Nolan for “Dunkirk.”
Miss Stone’s quip drew laughs from the audience and was in line with other references to the “Me too” movement at the award ceremony.
In her presentation of the Best Cinematography category, actress Sandra Bullock introduced the nominees as “four men and one trailblazing woman.”
But commenters on social media said Miss Stone’s remark nonetheless missed the mark.
Peak white feminism from Emma Stone. Pointing out that 4 of the nominees are men while ignoring that 2 of those men are minorities.

white feminism is dismissing jordan peele and guillermo del toro and mentioning greta gerwig like you’re changing the game

Anyway, white feminism is Emma Stone saying “four men and Greta Gerwig” as if Jordan Peele and Guillermo Del Toro’s nominations as men of color aren’t as important.

p.s. the joke only works if all the men are cis white male but no, you white feminists had to involve men of colour let alone GDT who is an immigrant! white feminism needs to go away!

that awkward moment when whitewashing actress Emma Stone decides to play woke for the day but instead ends up dropping a white feminism card by exclusively lauding the woman when there were two directors that are a part of minorities that are equally underrepresented #Oscars18

To throw MOC under the bus the way she did just shows exactly what’s wrong with white feminism. Who do you reckon have more oscars, white women or MOC? Shame on her.
