CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Power companies are working to restore service to hundreds of customers in West Virginia days after high winds pummeled the state.
FirstEnergy says on its website that about 1,100 customers in West Virginia remained without service Sunday, including 325 in Hampshire County, 258 in Hardy County and 171 in Morgan County.
FirstEnergy’s Mon Power and Potomac Edison subsidiaries serve more than 545,000 customers in West Virginia.
High winds buffeted the state from Thursday night through Saturday.
Appalachian Power says about 530 customers were without service at midday Sunday in southern West Virginia. The company also had about 19,000 customers out in central and southwestern Virginia, down from a peak of 75,000 customers.
Appalachian Power has 1 million customers in Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
